Salem United Methodist Church (or, Salem UMC) is a loving congregation with open hearts, open minds, and open doors. This church was
established in the year 1800 and ever since has remained a strong presence in the Salem community of Morganton, North Carolina. Connected
with the larger United Methodist Church, Salem UMC enjoys a rich heritage. Salem UMC does not, however, live in the past! We sense that God has
a bright future ahead of us, and we invite more people to take part in that future, too. Our mission is to make disciples of Jesus Christ for the
transformation of the world. We seek to fulfill this mission by worshipping God, gathering for fellowship and education, and going into the world to
serve. As United Methodists, our teaching is within the mainstream of historic Christianity. We look to the Bible as our prime source for truth. We
use our reasoning, tradition, and experience to help us interpret the Bible and live faithfully.
“What can I expect on Sunday morning?”
You can expect to be welcomed warmly. We have two worship services and Sunday School for all ages. The church’s Nursery is clean, cheerful,
and kept by loving volunteers. The worship is fresh and alive. The same sermon is preached at both services, though the music is different. While
the 9:00 am service uses recorded contemporary music, the 11:00 am service sings traditional hymns with an adult choir. The 11:00 am service
also has a special “Time for Children” with the pastor. We are deeply interested in meeting you, hearing your story, and connecting you to God.
“Who leads Salem UMC?”
Many dedicated servants work together to lead Salem United Methodist Church. In addition to many ministry teams made up of volunteers, the
church has a gifted staff. Our Senior Pastor is Rev. Mark Conforti. Mark is ordained to preach, teach, and focus the vision of Salem UMC. E-mail
Mark now, because he would love to hear from you.
“How can I find out more about Salem UMC?”
On Sunday morning, you can hear announcements and read them in the bulletin. Also, you can sign up to receive “The Salem Scoop,” our monthly
newsletter; just contact the church office. And, of course, you can explore more on this website! Above all, feel free to ask, and we will be delighted
to share more information and answer any questions.
“Is there room for me at Salem UMC?”
Yes, there is room for you, regardless of your age, background, or previous church experience. If you are new to the Christian faith, Salem UMC is a
safe place for you to explore and discover! After you dip your toe into the church’s life, we can take steps toward making faith commitments
as a church member.
