We believe that God is active in Salem UMC, in other communities of faith, in the
community, and around the world. God’s mission is already happening, and we are
called to participate. We are the Body of Christ, sent into the world for God’s purposes.
Below are some of the ways we are in mission and reach out beyond the walls
of the church:
Grant’s Fund – At the beginning of each school year, we collect money to help purchase
needed school supplies for families at Salem Elementary School. This initiative is
named in honor of Grant, one of Salem UMC’s youth.
Burke United Christian Ministries – Once a month, volunteers gather to prepare and
cook a meal for our neighbors on site at BUCM’s soup kitchen. We also regularly collect
canned goods and other needed supplies.
United Methodist Women “Hands On” opportunities – Regularly through out the year, the United Methodist Women will receive donations for
projects locally and around the world. For instance, they collect items to create "health kits" and "infant layette kits" to be distributed through the
United Methodist Committee on Relief.
Prison Ministry – We partner with Epiphany Ministries in addition to the Chaplain’s
office at the Western Youth Institute.
Mission Trips – Our members have experienced trips with United Methodist Volunteers
in Mission. Plus, our youth have gone on mission trips to various parts of the Southeast
United States, most recently to Slidell, Louisiana.
